HBO Latino to Offer Unique, First-Run Entertainment Around Hispanic Heritage Month

NEW YORK, Aug. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- HBO Latino will be premiering a powerful lineup of robust and diverse programs during Hispanic Heritage Month, which will spotlight Latino talent in front and behind the camera. From contemporary dramas to comedy to sports, HBO Latino will offer unique, first-run entertainment during September and October that will appeal to today's multigenerational and bilingual Hispanic households.
The celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month will be anchored around four key programs, original or exclusive to HBO Latino:
EPITAFIOS - The critically acclaimed 13-part series comes to HBO Latino from the HBO LATIN AMERICA service. Making its U.S. premiere, the drama series follows an ex-police officer and a female psychologist as they try to track down a vicious serial killer. The series, filmed in Argentina, stars Julio Chavez, Paola Krum, Cecilia Roth, Antonio Birabent and Villanueva Cosse. The first two episodes will be presented back-to-back on Sept. 12 at 8:00 p.m. ET, with new episodes premiering on subsequent Mondays at 9:00 p.m. ET.
HABLA Y HABLA - The latest installment of HBO Latino's original "Habla" on-air campaign which premiered in 2003, features anecdotes and real life accounts of what it means to be Latino in the U.S. Through the use of poetry, narratives and comical vignettes, bilingual performers touch on subjects like family, food, stereotypes, cross-cultures and "Spanglish" as a third language. The half-hour special, filmed in Miami, can be seen Sept. 14 at 9:30 p.m. ET, with encores Sept. 20, 22, 25 and 30. A second part will premiere in October.
TORREMOLINOS 73 - A comedy featuring Javier Camara, Candela Pena and Juan Diego, is the story of a former door-to-door salesman and his wife who turn to pornography in order to make ends meet. Originally from Spain, the film makes its U.S. television premiere under the HBO Latino banner "Estrenos Latinos " on Sept. 1 at 8:00 p.m. ET, with additional playdates on Sept. 2, 4, 18 and 20.
OSCAR DE LA HOYA PRESENTA BOXEO DE ORO - The HBO Latino original boxing series showcases up-and-coming fighters on a monthly basis, with the fights airing live on Thursday nights in prime time. Now in its third year, the September installment of the highly popular series premieres on Sept. 1 at 10:00 p.m. ET, live from the Desert Diamond Casino in Tucson, AZ, with repeats Sept. 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 20.
Other programming in September includes a new children's animated series POSTMAN PAT. The series, dubbed in Spanish, follows the activities of a neighborhood postman, and premieres on September 16 at 7:00 a.m., with more episodes airing throughout the month.
Coming up in October is the premiere of MARIA FULL OF GRACE, HBO Films' riveting and first-ever Spanish-language drama about a young Colombian woman's journey as a drug mule. The film, which earned actress Catalina Sandino Moreno an Oscar(R) nomination, premieres on October 10 at 10 p.m. ET. Also in October will be encore presentations of HBO Films' AND STARRING PANCHO VILLA AS HIMSELF, with Antonio Banderas, and FOR LOVE OR COUNTRY: THE ARTURO SANDOVAL STORY, starring Andy Garcia.
