NEW YORK, Aug. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- mtvU today unveiled its on-air, online and on campus fall programming line-up. The new series tap the next big trends in music and feature groundbreaking work from its college audience.
"College students are the first adopters of new music, new technology, and new trends," said Stephen Friedman, GM of mtvU. "We're providing a multi-platform venue for their passions and their talents, and we're doing it in a way that speaks to how they really live their lives -- on-air, online, and on campus."
mtvU programs and events making their debut this semester include:
* "STAND IN" -- A new roster of "Stand In" professors will surprise campuses this fall, including Martha Stewart, Kanye West, Melissa Etheridge, and Vice Prime Minister of Israel Shimon Peres. With mtvU cameras following, each will visit a separate mtvU partner college or university to teach a class of unsuspecting students for the day. Previous mtvU "Stand In" professors include Sting, Senator John McCain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Ashley Judd, Marilyn Manson and more.
* "DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE UNVEILED" -- Death Cab for Cutie is taking over mtvU -- with an on-air, online, and wireless exclusive first look-and-listen of their brand new album. From August 23rd through the 30th, mtvU will air an exclusive live performance by Death Cab, premiering a new song every day. On the 30th, the day the album drops, mtvU will air one of the performances every half hour between noon and 3. Additionally, starting on the 23rd, mtvU.com will stream the entire new album, and offer it as a wireless download for digital phones.
* "HOUSE BAND" -- mtvU, the crystal ball for new music, is giving some of the hottest up-coming bands "artist in residence" status as its official "House Bands." Every two weeks, mtvU and mtvU.com will feature exclusive performance footage, video premieres, backstage pass interviews and much more. The inaugural mtvU House Band will be the Gorillaz beginning August 22nd, followed by Bright Eyes, Matisyahu, Mike Jones, and Coheed & Cambria.
* "DOES THIS LOOK INFECTED?" -- What exactly can you catch from a concert port-a-potty? mtvU VJ Jam Jamma Josh, a junior at Ball State University, takes a hilarious and unreliable look at the health issues facing the college student body.
* "GLOBAL SUMMER" -- mtvU takes its audience across America and around the world, stepping inside the unusual, extraordinary, and exotic lives of students who opted out of your traditional summer internship. That includes one student training with the army before his second tour of duty in Iraq, and others who traveled to Iran to discover what life is like for college-aged students like them. Students also bring the mtvU audience along to Ghana, Ecuador, Australia, and Peru.
* "VIDEO GAMEFIX" -- For every problem in the life of a college student, there's a video game that can solve it. mtvU VJs surprise students with the perfect games for learning to drive, how to not get killed in paintball, or how to make the golf team.
* "'05 BEST FILM ON CAMPUS CONTEST" -- mtvU will once again jumpstart the career of an upcoming college filmmaker, inviting college students nationwide to create a powerful trailer for the movie they would most like to make. In addition to being featured on mtvU, the winner will receive a development deal with MTV Films and a complete home theater system. To enter, students are asked to visit http://www.mtvu.com/ beginning August 29th and September 23rd.
* "2005 mtvU ROAD TRIP TOUR: GAMER'S BALL" -- Beginning in October, mtvU will bring the hottest video games to 10 campuses across the country, along with a variety of gaming activities, competitions, and music performances. The tour will be broadcast to students nationwide through on-air and online coverage, plus a special gaming hub at mtvU.com.
* "2005 mtvU TAILGATE TOUR" -- This semester, the mtvU bus hits the road, hooking up with tailgating college kids across the country to cheer for the home team. The mtvU Tailgate Bus will drop in on homecoming parades, pep rallies, parties and college football games capturing the biggest fans on camera. The tailgate tour will be covered with six weeks of programming on mtvU and mtvU.com.
*Dates and campuses for mtvU's fall tours will be announced shortly.
