Executive Director of the Ontario Pharmacists' Association Available to Speak Out on Recent Importation News from Canada
Marc Kealey Supports Health Minister Dosanjh's Message to the United States,
'We Don't Want Your Business'
Who: Marc Kealey
Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Pharmacists' Association
(OPA)
What: Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Pharmacists' Association
(OPA), Marc Kealey, is available for interview regarding the
Canadian Minister of Health's plans to end cross-border
prescription drug trade with the United States. As more
Americans turn to Canada for their prescription drugs, Kealey
and the OPA fully support Health Minister Ujjal Dosanjh's plans
to introduce protective measures for Canadian pharmacies to
ensure that Canadians have full access to their medications.
When: Saturday, July 2 and Sunday, July 3
Where: In-Studio television interviews or via satellite
Why: The high price of prescription drugs in the United States has
drawn Americans to Canada seeking cheaper costs for the same
medications. This increasing demand by the U.S. is challenging
the Canadian drug supply and the ability to provide medications
to Canadians. In effort to protect their prescription drug
supply, Health Minister Ujjal Dosanjh announced this week plans
to create stronger laws and restrictions against cross border
prescription drug sales. Kealey is pleased to see recognition
by Dosanjh that the Canadian drug supply is truly in danger. He
supports Dosanjh's call for action but expresses his fear that
these first measures won't be enough. Kealey has stated that he
prefers to see a complete ban on selling pharmaceutical products
to the United States or a system that would eliminate the price
incentive to export Canadian drugs.
The OPA is the professional advocacy association for pharmacists
and pharmacists-in-training in Ontario, representing the
professional interests of 10,000 pharmacists in Canada's largest
province.
