Menopause The Musical(TM) Launches National Tour to Support Ovarian Cancer
Tickets Go on Sale Saturday, July 23, 2005
ORLANDO, Fla., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- In March 2001, Jeanie Linders, writer/producer of Menopause The Musical(TM) brought her comedy, a parody of hits from the 1960s-70s, to the stage to give women a way to laugh about The Change. Since the launch of the show, her passion for opening lines of communication about women's health issues has grown even deeper and this fall, she will launch a national tour Menopause The Musical Out Loud(TM). The Out Loud tour, will kick-off in September to coincide with National Menopause Awareness Month, and will visit 50 cities across the country to increase awareness of medical, social and emotional issues faced by the millions of women who are or will be entering menopause.
Tickets for the Menopause The Musical Out Loud(TM) tour go on sale Saturday, July 23, 2005 throughout the Southeastern US. For more information about the tour, including tour cities, dates, and ticket information, please visit www.menopausethemusical.com.
The tour will launch in Washington, D.C. on September 7 with a Fearless Aging Expo for members of Congress, the Administration and policy makers engaged in leading issues of concern regarding the health of our nation's women. A reception and Menopause The Musical(TM) performance will follow at the historic Warner Theatre.
As it travels across the country, the tour will raise funds with proceeds being donated to local Ovarian Cancer charities by the Women For Women Foundation. In several tour cities, Fearless Aging Expos will create a forum for women to discuss health issues.
A recent survey by JD Powers & Associates found that almost one-third of women do not talk to doctors about menopausal symptoms and many women feel their doctors trivialize their concerns regarding menopause. Others feel they are not getting the assistance they need to make important treatment decisions. Hot flashes, sleep disorders, and mood swings are just some of the symptoms women experience when going through menopause. Traditionally, women suffered through menopause silently, but Linders is changing that.
"In my opinion, these statistics are completely unacceptable," said Linders. "I feel compelled to help women deal with this issue especially since menopause creates an increased risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, breast and ovarian cancers. By creating the Menopause The Musical Out Loud(TM) tour, I hope we'll inspire thousands of women to talk openly about what they are going through and what they can do to improve their health today and in the long-term."
The tour presented by the Women For Women Foundation, has been made possible, in part, by a generous corporate contribution from Synova, makers of Menocheck -- it's the simple way to answer a simple, yet very important question. The Women For Women Foundation is the service organization of Menopause The Musical(TM) and sponsor of the Fabulous Faces art exhibit. Fabulous Faces is an art show featuring self-portraits of women over 40 including celebrities such as Phyllis Diller, Lea Thompson, Penny Marshall, Rosie O'Donnell and Virginia Madsen.
Menopause The Musical(TM) brings together four women (a Power Woman, Earth Mother, Soap Star and an Iowa Housewife) at a NYC Bloomingdale's lingerie sale, who have nothing in common but a black lace bra and hot flashes, night sweats, memory loss, chocolate binges, not enough sex, too much sex, plastic surgery and more! Menopause The Musical(TM) joyfully and hilariously parodies 25 of the top "baby boomer" songs of the '60s and '70s, including such chart-toppers as "I Heard It Thru the Grapevine" ("You No Longer See 39"),"Heat Wave" ("Hot Flash") and the disco favorite "Stayin' Alive" ("Stayin' Awake! Stayin' Awake!"), just to name a few.
