Vertasent Announces Beta Release of its Edge Resource Management Platform

COLMAR, Pa., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Vertasent LLC today announced the beta release of its Edge Resource Manager (ERM) product to facilitate the next generation of cable voice, video and data applications. The ERM is a fully redundant, fault tolerant resource manager capable of sharing edge QAM bandwidth between different services such as VoIP, Switch Digital Broadcast, VOD and DOCSIS.

The ERM1000 allows open VOD systems to be deployed in place of today's closed, proprietary, end-to-end systems. With Vertasent's ERM1000 installed, cable operators can make use of the expanding vendor choices for both VOD servers and QAM devices. Today, VOD vendors include Arroyo, Broadbus, C-COR, Concurrent, and Seachange while the edge QAM market includes Harmonic, Scientific Atlanta, RGB Networks and Motorola. The ERM1000s open interfaces allow servers from multiple vendors to stream video through edge QAMs from multiple vendors. In the past, mixing VOD vendors or edge QAM vendors in the same headend was not practical.

In the past, open systems meant that you could have different VOD servers using the same backoffice only if they were in different cable systems.
