Musical Medical Memorization: Brain Warm-Ups CD Offers Medical Refresher, Entertainment for Medically Minded

COLUMBIA, Mo., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Medicine and music. It's a combination you rarely see. But now there's a new CD that unites the two in a unique, educational and entertaining way.

Brain Warm-Ups is a musical approach to refreshing the brain on medical techniques and procedures. The idea behind the Brain Warm-Ups CD was to combine the powerful memory boosting effects of music with medical information using catchy lyrics to convey information in an unconventional way. "Musical memorization is a proven technique for comprehension and retention, plus the songs are entertaining," said Ted Willmore, creator of Brain Warm-Ups.

The medicine and music combination is not new for Willmore. He holds an undergraduate degree in music composition from the University of Texas, and went on to medical school at Washington University in St. Louis. Today, he is the medical director of the emergency department at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City, Mo., and works full time in the ER.

"I've been involved with music since middle school," Willmore said. "I played the oboe, then the French horn. I joined the choir in high school, and played in a band during my emergency residency in Indianapolis. I've always needed a musical outlet. When I started my 'real job,' I had some extra creative energy, so I started the Brain Warm-Ups project."

There are 11 songs on Brain Warm-Ups covering a variety of musical styles to appeal to all music lovers. From rock to rap, country to comic opera, there is something for everyone. Titles include "Code Blue," "Difficult Airway," "The Left Side," and "The Brain Warm-Ups Theme." Not only is Willmore the creator of the project, he also wrote the music, lyrics and orchestration. And he sings several of the songs.

"We've developed this CD as entertainment. It is not meant as a replacement for medical training and experience," Willmore emphasized. "It's just a fun musical mix for the medically minded."
