Los Angeles Press Club's Southern California Journalism Awards Honor Top International, National And Local Journalists

L.A. Mayor-Elect Antonio Villaraigosa Will Open the Ceremony

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Los Angeles Press Club (LAPC) presents the 47th Annual Southern California Journalism Awards, Saturday, June 11 2005, at 6:00PM at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel. Awards will be handed out for editorial excellence in print, broadcast and online reporting in 2004. Los Angeles Mayor-Elect Antonio Villaraigosa, appearing at one of his first major events since winning the mayoral election, will make the opening remarks at the ceremony.

During the evening, special honors will also be given to several distinguished journalists:

* Jesus Blancornelas, editor of Mexico's leading investigative magazine,
Zeta, will be presented with the Daniel Pearl Award for Courage and
Integrity in Journalism by Daniel's parents, Ruth and Judea Pearl.

* Associated Press special correspondent Linda Deutsch will receive The
President's Award in recognition of her impact on journalism and media.
LAPC President Patt Morrison of the Los Angeles Times and KCET will
present the award to Deutsch.

* Premier New Yorker investigative reporter, Seymour Hersh, is the 2005
recipient of the Joseph M. Quinn Life Time Award for Journalistic
Excellence and Distinction.

* The late KTLA anchor Larry McCormick will be remembered with a special
tribute, presented by "The Morning Show" entertainment reporter, Sam
Rubin.

Among the awards presenters for this year's event will be legendary Dodger broadcaster Ross Porter, NBC investigative reporter Ana Garcia, KPCC's Larry Mantle, Latino theater and comedy group Culture Clash, and many more.
