'4th of July' Heats Up for Shooter Jennings
Hit Single, Major Tour and Media Appearances Converging
NASHVILLE, Tenn., June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The summer keeps getting hotter for Shooter Jennings, the only child of the legendary Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter. His red-hot debut single "4th of July," is shaping up to be the summer anthem of 2005, with heavy airplay in many top radio markets.
Jennings' upcoming media include profiles in Parade magazine (July 3), USA Weekend (July 10), the current issue of Blender magazine and a sit-down feature on CNN Headline News' "Showbiz Tonight," aptly airing on July 4th.
Jennings brings his distinctive brand of raw, energetic country music to the stage as he opens for Toby Keith's Big Throwdown II tour (also featuring Lee Ann Womack). Quickly earning a reputation for his tight, smoking live set, Jennings will be in front of weekly audiences of 40,000+ in sold-out arenas throughout the summer (the tour opened in Charlotte, NC, last Friday).
This week, a Director's Cut version of the music video for "4th of July" was World Premiered on CMT: Country Music Television's "Top-20 Countdown" show. The Director's Cut version includes brand new footage and features the unedited album version of the song.
This fall, Jennings will make his big-screen debut, playing the part of his late father in the Johnny Cash bio-pic, "Walk The Line," to be released theatrically in November. Directed by James Mangold, the film stars Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon.
Since the release of his debut album, Put The 'O' Back In Country (dubbed "the perfect outlaw country record" by Entertainment Weekly), Jennings has been profiled by People, GQ, Harp, Maxim, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, and was interviewed by his "Walk The Line" co-star Joaquin Phoenix for Interview magazine.
With his inimitable style of new-generation outlaw country, Shooter vows to continue his legendary father's vision for another generation. "I know there's that audience out there that was the same audience that listened to his music," he recently told No Depression. "They didn't care about boundaries. And that's exactly what I want to do. He taught me and trained me and I'll work as hard as I can 'til I'm dead."
