Tiger Jam VIII Raises More Than $1 Million for Charity
Tiger Jam VIII, an SBC Sponsored Event, Gathers Celebrities in Las Vegas to Raise Funds for Woods' New Learning Center
LAS VEGAS, May 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Celebrities including Teri Hatcher, Conan O'Brien, Joss Stone, Kevin James, Jerry O'Connell, Greg Grunberg and Henry Simmons joined Tiger Woods for the sold-out Tiger Jam VIII featuring Stevie Wonder and Counting Crows. The event, sponsored by the SBC family of companies, was held at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 21.
Prior to the concert, patrons were welcomed by Conan O'Brien before bidding on a variety of items in the live and silent auctions. Some of the exclusive items up for bid included a fantasy football package that sold for $75,000; a getaway at Albany Plantation in the Bahamas that raised $80,000 and a Target World Challenge Pro-Am spot and putting lesson from Tiger that sold for $55,000. Guests then joined nearly 8,000 Stevie Wonder fans for a stellar performance featuring Prince, who joined the concert during the Wonder classic "Superstition."
Tiger Jam VIII raised more than $1 million for the Tiger Woods Learning Center (TWLC) and select local charities. The TWLC is a 35,000-square-foot education facility under construction in Southern California where children will explore programs in math, science, language arts and character development. The facility is scheduled to open in the winter of 2005.
The Las Vegas-based concert series was created in 1998 by the Tiger Woods Foundation, an organization dedicated to inspiring dreams in America's youth. Since its inception, Tiger Jams I - VII have raised more than $7 million. Proceeds from previous Tiger Jams have supported Child Haven, Center for Independent Living, Greater Las Vegas Inner City Games, Boys & Girls Club of Las Vegas, UNLV Women's Athletics, GRAMMY in the Schools and The VH1 Save the Music Foundation.
