WUSN-FM 99.5 HD-2 'Chicago's Future Country' to Feature Uninterrupted New Country Music Releases Seven Days a Week Beginning on Thursday, May 12
NEW YORK, May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Infinity Broadcasting announced today the launch of WUSN-FM 99.5 HD-2 "Chicago's Future Country," the nation's first continuously programmed HD Radio(TM) multicast channel by a commercial broadcaster on Thursday, May 12. WUSN-FM 99.5 HD-2 will be programmed independently of radio station WUSN-FM, and will feature a comprehensive playlist of new music from country's favorite artists and brightest rising stars. Both digital broadcasts will also include song, title and artist information as text and displayed on HD Radio capable receivers.
WUSN-FM, the most listened to country music station in the nation, has been granted experimental authorization from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to broadcast the supplemental audio service (multicast). The station began broadcasting digitally in June 2003.
"There is no limit to the number of uses involving HD Radio," said Joel Hollander, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Infinity. "And this announcement is just the first of many related to Infinity's digital broadcast strategy. We will continue to be aggressive in converging new and traditional media through creative programming and advanced delivery methods."
"Launching this new multicast capability is very exciting, and we are thrilled to be on the cutting edge of this burgeoning technology," said Dave Robbins, Vice President and General Manager of WUSN-FM and WJMK-FM. "We clearly see the future of digital radio and have embraced its many applications. WUSN-FM 99.5 HD-2 'Chicago's Future Country' is the perfect compliment to our No. 1-rated station and offers our listeners the capability to hear the best new country music in superior, crystal-clear sound quality."
Infinity has implemented HD Radio technology developed by iBiquity Digital at several of its radio stations across the country, including stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Boston, Detroit, Seattle, Cleveland, Las Vegas, and Fresno. HD Radio technology transmits digital audio and data alongside existing AM and FM analog signals, allowing listeners with HD Radio compatible receivers to enjoy crystal-clear digital sound and reception: AM sounds like FM; and FM sounds like a CD. The technology also provides listeners a variety of desired information such as song titles, artist names, traffic updates, weather forecasts, sports scores, and more.
Infinity is one of the largest major-market radio operators in the United States, with stations covering the news, modern rock, oldies, country, FM talk, classic rock and urban formats, among others. A division of Viacom Inc. (NYSE:VIA)(NYSE:and)(NYSE:VIA.B), Infinity operates 180 radio stations, the majority of which are in the nation's top 50 markets. Additionally, Infinity is home to 29 of the country's leading sports franchises amongst MLB, the NFL, the NBA and the NHL.
