DreamWorks and Limelight Networks Raise the Curtain on Accelerated Delivery of Online Movie Previews
Limelight's High-Performance Content Delivery Network Delivers DreamWorks Trailers to Millions of Movie Fans
TEMPE, Ariz., May 9 /PRNewswire/ -- DreamWorks LLC has chosen Limelight Networks, a leading Internet content delivery network, to support online marketing efforts of the entire collection of the latest DreamWorks' movie releases. With films such as the recently launched The Ring Two and the upcoming Madagascar driving millions of people online for a quick look, Limelight Networks will handle the massive and growing demand for DreamWorks' high-quality trailers from a worldwide audience.
Through its relationship with Limelight Networks, DreamWorks is able to accommodate large online audiences without the complexity or cost of managing a global content delivery network. DreamWorks is utilizing the Limelight Content Delivery Network for reliable, high performance distributed delivery of movie trailers and website content, both from its corporate site, DreamWorks.com, and the all of the standalone sites for individual DreamWorks properties, such as Shrek2.com.
"DreamWorks is synonymous with excellence in entertainment and other media offerings, and demands the best possible online viewing experience for their audience," said David Rice, Vice President of Sales for Limelight. "Leveraging our unique Content Delivery Network -- built from the ground up to deliver video to large audiences -- online visitors can quickly access any of DreamWorks' media-quality previews. Our relationship with DreamWorks validates our position as the performance leader in the online media content delivery industry."
DreamWorks has seen unprecedented visitor traffic to its Web properties in the last year, with a high percentage requesting Internet delivery of trailers for popular movies such as Shrek 2, Shark Tale and Collateral. For example, when DreamWorks launched a special introductory trailer for Shrek 2, Limelight Networks received over 2.5 million visits -- a record high for DreamWorks. Altogether, more than 14 million online visitors have viewed the Shrek 2 trailer and site content since its release last May.
In addition to delivering trailers, Limelight Networks also supports DreamWorks in making its Web sites fully accessible to massive numbers of visitors -- on average, 3.5 million viewers per month. Limelight provides distributed delivery for all of the images and objects associated with every DreamWorks site, as well as each site's interactive features.
"We originally chose Limelight as our content delivery network provider for Shrek 2 because we knew the volume would be huge," said Abe Wong, head of DreamWorks' Information Technology department. "The Limelight delivery platform's performance, scalability, and reliability were so impressive that we have now deployed it for use with all of our current and upcoming properties."
