Briggs & Stratton Seeks Women Weed Whackers and Mowtown Moms for Yard Smarts Advisory Panel

Briggs & Stratton Seeks Women Weed Whackers and Mowtown Moms for Yard Smarts Advisory Panel

MILWAUKEE, May 23 /PRNewswire/ -- If you're a woman who is comfortable wielding a string trimmer and manning a mower, Briggs & Stratton Corporation wants to hear from you.

Briggs & Stratton, the world's largest manufacturer of gasoline engines for a variety of outdoor power equipment, is conducting a national search for a panel of female yard care enthusiasts. A group of 10 candidates will be chosen to form the first ever "Yard Smarts for Women Advisory Panel," where they will share insights into how they care for their yards ranging from wrestling with lawn problems and whacking weeds to how well their power equipment suits their abilities and needs.

Each panel participant will receive new outdoor power equipment including a lawn mower and pressure washer. One of the panel members also will receive a visit from Pat Simpson, host of popular HGTV television shows "Fix it Up," "Room to Improve" and "Before & After." Pat will demonstrate the proper use of the new equipment and discuss the panelist's yard care experiences in more detail.

For one year, Briggs & Stratton will confer with panel members quarterly via phone and internet on a range of issues that impact product development and education as it relates to women. Panel members will be provided products to try out and keep and may also be asked to respond to short surveys to share their views on yard care.

"We want to know what women want," says Anita Fisher, marketing communications manager for Briggs & Stratton. "We know that women more than ever before are actively involved in buying and using lawn care equipment, and this advisory panel will help us learn more about how women feel when it comes to equipment and achieving the yard they want for themselves and their families."

For a chance to become part of the Yard Smarts for Women Advisory Panel, women should submit a short essay (250 words or less) that explains why they think they should be selected as a panel participant. Newcomers to yard care as well as women who are lawn and garden veterans are invited to participate and will be selected based on how creatively they explain why their yard care opinions should be heard. Essays must be received by September 30, 2005.

Visit http://www.yardsmartwoman.com/ for complete rules and an entry form or mail the essay along with your name, address, phone number and e-mail address, if you have one, to: "Yard Smart Woman Contest," P.O. Box 8, Germantown, WI 53022.
