OSCAR(R) Winning Director Marleen Gorris Makes Bold Move

OSCAR(R) Winning Director Marleen Gorris Makes Bold Move

Film is Part of Bold Films' Big Move to Put 12 New Projects Into Production

LOS ANGELES, April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Academy Award(R) winning director Marleen Gorris ("Antonia's Line" -- Best Foreign Language Film) has teamed up with Bold Films to direct their daring new project, "Rosa," a sexually-charged love triangle which evolves into a spiritual journey. Principal photography is scheduled to begin June 7 in Florence, Italy.

"Rosa" is very much in keeping with Bold Films' philosophy of acquiring cutting-edge material and then pairing established talent with brave new voices to produce projects that are distinct and stand apart from standard Hollywood studio fare.

"Rosa" is being executive produced by Michel Litvak, along with Bold Films' Gary Michael Walters and Dan Grodnik and produced by Bold's Edward Bass, debut screenwriter Athena Stensland and Jeff Rice.

Stensland is excited about the pairing. "It's wonderful to be working with a company like Bold Films, who remain completely and entirely supportive of the creative artistic process. To have a filmmaker like Marlene Gorris directing your first screenplay is just a writer's dream."

According to Bold Films' Edward Bass, "The majority of our projects have had first-time directors, but here it's great to have the chance to launch a debut screenwriter. Obviously, Marleen's participation will add even more sensitivity to the writer's vision. And the artistic sophistication and discrimination she shows in her choice of projects gives us further confidence that this will be another signature Bold production."

Most recently, Bold also produced first-time writer-director Nick Guthe's forthcoming dark comedy, "Mini's First Time," starring Alec Baldwin, Nikki Reed, Luke Wilson, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jeff Goldblum. Bold Films is in competition at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival with "Slingshot," a crime drama from debut director Jay Alaimo, starring David Arquette, Thora Birch, Balthazar Getty and Julianna Margulies. They are also in prep on the first feature from Domenica Cameron Scorcese, an adaptation of Sara Gran's acclaimed novel, "Saturn's Return to New York."

Bold Films is also producing the directorial debut of "Chasing Amy" actress Joey Lauren Adams, entitled "Come Early Morning." The film, which will star Ashley Judd, is set to start production April 26 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Bold's Gary Michael Walters is enthusiastic about the company's forthcoming slate. "One of my first assignments when I joined Bold was to get Dan Grodnik on board. His extensive success with debut directors is just extraordinary and Joey Lauren Adams' project marks the 21st film he has made with a first-timer at the helm. Obviously, we are interested in making movies with heart and not by the numbers."
