U.S. TV Exclusive: Bill Gates Tells Bloomberg TV that Weakness in the U.S. Dollar Leads to Increased R&D Spending

NEW YORK, March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- In a U.S. television exclusive interview on BLOOMBERG TELEVISION, Bill Gates, chairman and chief software architect of Microsoft Corporation, stated that the weak U.S. dollar has increased Microsoft's profits, resulting in increased investment in research and development.

"The I.T. industry books a lot of its sales in foreign currencies, including Microsoft. About half of our sales are outside of the United States, whereas much more of our cost structure, because of our R&D focus, is still very, very heavily here in the U.S. So, the weak dollar tends to increase the profit results of Microsoft and other I.T. companies and gives us a chance to take some of that [and] put more in R&D," Mr. Gates told Bloomberg Television.

The entire U.S. television exclusive interview can be seen starting at 5am Wednesday, March 9th on BLOOMBERG TELEVISION worldwide. It can also be viewed by Bloomberg subscribers via the BLOOMBERG TERMINAL.
