Background: The Academy of Art University was established in 1929. The
School of Fashion is known for its cutting edge designs and
incorporating sustainable fibers into its courses and runway
fashions. Its graduates have gone on to work for Marc
Jacobs, Alexander McQueen and John Galliano, among many
others. The School of Motion Pictures and Television, which
includes the newly added acting program, takes advantage of
the San Francisco area's film industry (including ILM and
Pixar Studios), with scores of alumni moving on to work with
those studios as well as LA-based DreamWorks and others. The
acting program is directed by actress Diane Baker ("ER," "The
Diary of Ann Frank," "Silence of the Lambs"). 80% of the
Academy's graduates have found creative careers in art and
design.
