Notes of Interest:

The first two days of this year's NCAA tournament received the highest television ratings since 1991 and web search activity compliments the high TV ratings with March Madness landing at number one on this week's Lycos 50. Search activity for Sweet 16-bound teams also skyrocketed, up 538 percent over last week. The Villanova Wildcats are one of the hottest teams entering the tournament and their online search activity is no different, up 250 percent. Interestingly, the Washington Huskies, the number one seed in the Albuquerque Region, saw their search activity drop 67 percent over last week. The other three number one seeds -- Duke, Illinois, and North Carolina -- have all jumped in search activity, with Duke seeing a 188 percent increase this week. If search traffic is any indication, the Final Four will be the Fighting Illini versus the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the North Carolina Tar Heels against the Duke Blue Devils.

Right to Life:

Searches for 41-year-old Terri Schiavo have increased 222 percent over the past 24 hours, as the dispute between her husband and her parents intensified over the weekend when GOP leaders intervened with a bill aimed at prolonging the brain-damaged woman's life. Searches for President George W. Bush have also surged 150 percent, while searches for Living Wills are up 80 percent.

Other Notes of Interest:

Regina Lasko (#39), David Letterman's girlfriend and mother of Letterman's son Harry, re-enters this week's list following news of a failed plot to kidnap Lasko and Letterman's baby. Interestingly, web users appear to be far more interested in Lasko than Letterman, as searches for the late-night host's girlfriend outnumber searches for Letterman by 320 percent. Meanwhile, search activity for American Idol (#12) jumps 146 percent over last week on the heels of news that one of the fan favorites, Mario Vazquez (#37) abruptly left the competition. Searches for Vazquez propelled him on to this week's list as the first American Idol of the current season to make The Lycos 50.
