Golden Globe(R) Winner Rick Schroder Joins Cast of LIFETIME Television's Original Drama 'Strong Medicine'
Schroder Pairs with Rosa Blasi When Series Returns for Sixth Season in June
LOS ANGELES, March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Acclaimed actor and Golden Globe winner Rick Schroder, who received kudos for his gritty performance as a New York City detective in the Emmy Award-winning series "NYPD Blue," trades a badge for a stethoscope when he joins the cast of Lifetime Television's medical drama "Strong Medicine" for the series' sixth season in June.
This past year "Strong Medicine," the longest-running original drama ever created for basic cable, averaged nearly 2.3 million total viewers while airing Sundays at 9PM (ET/PT).
In this starring role opposite Rosa Blasi, an original member of the cast as Dr. Luisa Delgado, Schroder portrays a new doctor and the first male physician to run the Rittenhouse Women's Health Center along with Delgado.
As one of the few actors who have made the successful transition from child star to seasoned adult actor, Schroder has achieved 30 years of success in the entertainment industry. At the young age of eight, Schroder received a Golden Globe(R) for his performance in "The Champ," and then went on to star in numerous television shows and mini-series including "Silver Spoons," "Lonesome Dove," "Return to Lonesome Dove" and "NYPD Blue." Feature film credits include "Crimson Tide," with Denzel Washington; "Across the Tracks," opposite Brad Pitt; and "Poolhall Junkies." Schroder recently directed his first feature film entitled "Black Cloud," which he also wrote, produced and starred in. He also won the 2004 Country Music Association (CMA) Best Music Video Award for his direction of "Whiskey Lullaby" sung by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss.
In making the announcement, Rick Haskins, Executive Vice President/General Manager, Lifetime Entertainment Services, said, "While we're sorry Pat Richardson decided to leave the show after three years, Rick's diverse talent and experience adds a wonderful new dimension by presenting and seeing women's health issues through a man's eyes."
"Strong Medicine" continues to address today's cutting-edge health issues. Other regular cast members include Jenifer Lewis, Josh Coxx and Tamera Mowry.
"Strong Medicine" is produced by Sony Pictures Television for LIFETIME Television. Whoopi Goldberg and Tammy Ader are the executive producers and creators of the series.
