Wayne Ewing Films Invites the Washington Public to Cocktails and 'Breakfast with Hunter'
Director Will Also Preview Two Documentaries Which Ask: Can Special Interests 'Buy' Judges?
WASHINGTON, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is being issued by Wayne Ewing Films:
WHAT: To celebrate the launch of his new film "Benched - The Corporate
Takeover of the Judiciary" and his new independent television
series "The Last Campaign," director Wayne Ewing is inviting the
Washington public to join him for cocktails and "Breakfast with
Hunter," his acclaimed documentary about gonzo journalist Hunter
S. Thompson. Also showing will be previews of his new films "The
Last Campaign" and "Benched."
"Benched" tells the story of how big business, particularly big
tobacco, poured money into a judicial campaign in the name of tort
reform. It is alleged that tobacco giant Philip Morris, wanted to
influence the election and buy its way out of a 10 billion dollar
court judgment that is pending in the Illinois Supreme Court.
"The Last Campaign"(a sequel to Ewing's legendary first film in
1972, "If Elected") is about the 2004 campaign for the re-election
of Justice Warren McGraw to the West Virginia Supreme Court,
dubbed the "nastiest" judicial race in 2004, if not the most
expensive. It is reported that one man, the head of a coal company
with a 60 million dollar judgment against it on appeal before the
West Virginia Supreme Court, spent millions to defeat McGraw with
a sleazy ad campaign.
