Warner Books to Publish Book by Atlanta Braves Executive Vice President and General Manager John Schuerholz

NEW YORK, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Warner Books announced today that they have acquired a book by John Schuerholz, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Atlanta Braves. The book, currently untitled, will be co-written with best-selling sports journalist Larry Guest and is scheduled to be published in hardcover at a date to be announced.

A complete and candid account of the extraordinary baseball career of John Schuerholz, the book will delve into his baseball philosophy, his leadership skills, his management style, and his decisions regarding player personnel in his long baseball tenure. Revealing stories about inside baseball, including insights into players, will be a major part of the book.

John Schuerholz's name, in the highly competitive world of professional baseball, has become synonymous with success. Since becoming the GM of the Atlanta Braves in 1990, Schuerholz has perfected the art and science of scouting over the years that has led the Braves to the World Series championship in 1995, 13-consecutive division championships (a professional sports record) and five pennants. He became the General Manager of the Kansas City Royals in 1981 and took them to the pinnacle with the World Series championship in 1985. Last year, Schuerholz was honored by Baseball America with the 2004 Lifetime Achievement Award.

In making the announcement, Rick Wolff, Executive Editor and Vice President of Warner Books said, "In the highly competitive world of major league baseball, being able to win year after year is the mark of true leadership, skill, and talent. John Schuerholz is one of the very few who does precisely that -- he wins, year after year."

John Schuerholz said, "I'll take baseball fans behind the scenes so that they can see how a general manager makes everyday decisions on players, trades, and so on. I'll also share the business principles that the Atlanta Braves' organization uses routinely -- principles that can transform leaders or their companies into consistent, committed winners."

Laurence J. Kirshbaum, CEO and Chairman of the Time Warner Book Group added, "John Schuerholz is the kind of financial and operational manager who has demonstrated how to be a consistent winning performer while keeping the costs below what competitors are paying. His ability to evaluate talent and hire executives who can get the best out of that talent is legendary in the baseball world."

Warner Books is a division of the Time Warner Book Group, which is a unit of Time Inc.
