Overstock.com's Jewelry department, averaging more than one million visitors per month, decided to play Cupid this Valentine's Day by purchasing thousands of high-quality diamonds at a price only a top discount retailer could negotiate. "No couple who shops with us will have to compromise on their engagement ring," said Joanne Dalebout, expert jewelry buyer for Overstock.com.
Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne added, "We are not saying, 'Save money buying your fiancee her ring from us.' We are saying, 'For what you would spend elsewhere, you can get her a lot more diamond here.'"
The new feature enables couples to match the diamond and setting of her dreams while staying within their budget. Whether ring-shopping so|o or as a couple, the two-step process is simple and educational for novice and expert jewelry buyers alike:
* Step 1: Select the diamond shape, and then browse through a menu of
diamonds based on the shape, cut, color, clarity and number of carats
available. Unlike other online jewelry sites, Overstock.com does not
require customers to pre-select diamonds based on price; it gives them
the flexibility to see all of the available options or a more narrow
selection, if desired.
* Step 2: Choose a setting in platinum, 14kt or 18kt yellow or white
gold, then select from a variety of styles, including a traditional
solitaire, side diamonds or matching sets.
Before purchasing the ring, the buyer can preview and save the selection -- along with other previously viewed rings.
After picking the perfect ring and placing the order, the ring is shipped within five business days via secure overnight delivery. To ensure receipt by Valentine's Day, Overstock.com recommends placing orders by February 7th.
Knowing that buying a diamond engagement ring is a big decision, Overstock.com has a team of jewelry experts available around-the-clock to answer questions or offer advice by:
* phone (1-800-THE-BIG-O, option #4) from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. MST, Monday
through Friday;
* live chat, which will be available shortly, through a link on the
Build Your Own Ring Web page; or
* Email at BYOinfo@overstock.com.
Also, every diamond is individually certified by accredited gemological laboratories, proof of which customers receive with purchase.
