MobileTrax Names iPass Acquisition of Mobile Automation as One of the Best Mobile Computing M&As of 2005
Mobility Awards Honor the Best and Finest Mobile Computing and Wireless Data Communications Products and Services
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MobileTrax named the iPass Inc. (NASDAQ:IPAS) acquisition of Mobile Automation, completed in Q4 last year, as one of the best mergers and acquisitions to impact mobile computing in 2004. "There's a need to honor the best and finest mobile computing and wireless data communications products and services," said J. Gerry Purdy, Ph.D. Chief Analyst with MobileTrax as winners of the Mobility Awards Program were announced.
At the time the Mobile Automation acquisition was announced, iPass CEO Ken Denman said, "Mobile computers and PDAs are the weakest links in the enterprise security chain. Corporations need to keep these devices continuously protected. Current methods only protect devices once they connect to the corporate network, which exposes them and the corporate network to a variety of dangers that leave the enterprise open to competitive and financial risks. The integration of iPass services with Mobile Automation technology is expected to minimize these dangers."
Mobile Automation developed a powerful suite of Web-based services that allow enterprise IT departments to better manage remote and mobile devices throughout their lifecycle, including security assessment, software deployment and update, and IT support. These services are built to be easy to deploy and use, and are optimized for mobile connectivity environments. Designed to maximize both end-user productivity and network security, these services, now available from iPass, let IT departments set policies and priorities for software updates to enable computers to receive required software and operating system updates without needless impact on the user experience.
