Orb Networks and Pinnacle Systems Join Forces to Deliver Spontaneous Mobile Access to Suite of Digital Media Products
Customers Can Now Access Home Movies and Recorded Videos Anywhere in the World, From Virtually Any Internet Enabled Device
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Orb Networks, Inc., a leading developer of streaming media software and services, and Pinnacle Systems(R), Inc. (NASDAQ:PCLE), a leader in digital video solutions, today announced a strategic alliance that will allow Pinnacle's customers even more flexibility to manage their digital lifestyles. Using Orb's Media solution, giving people the ability to be connected to their digital media all the time from anywhere in the world, customers will be able to access digital videos they've created with Pinnacle Studio or videos they've recorded with Pinnacle MediaCenter and Pinnacle PCTV from any device that can connect to the Internet, such as a cell phone, PDA, or notebook.
Pinnacle MediaCenter software and Pinnacle PCTV systems allow users to transform their existing PCs into digital entertainment centers. The products give customers the ability to create, manage and enjoy a full range of media, such as live television, music, photos and videos, on their home PCs. Through the Orb service, Pinnacle customers are now able to access these same mediums from their mobile devices. For instance, users can listen to their music on a cell phone while riding the train or shopping. They can also access their digital videos created with Pinnacle video editing applications or recorded videos using Pinnacle TV viewing and PVR software and hardware, and do so from virtually anywhere they have internet access.
"Pinnacle recognizes that mobile technologies are becoming increasingly important for delivering instant access to digital content around the globe," said Leslie Adams, senior vice president of marketing services, Pinnacle Systems. "Essentially, working with Orb should give our customers the ability to stream all of the digital home media we provide to their mobile devices. Our customers can't always be home to access their Pinnacle MediaCenter PC, or show their friends the video they made. This type of service only opens new avenues and opportunities for disseminating digital media and accessing our solutions. Pinnacle is excited about the mobility and flexibility this new technology provides to our customers."
"Mobile services are here to stay and the more companies can offer to their customers, the better equipped they will be to take advantage of the wireless revolution," said James Behrens, CEO, Orb Networks. "Combining Orb's service with Pinnacle's products just makes sense. People are always on the move and already own the mobile devices necessary for accessing TV and music and setting PVRs from remote locations. Everything Pinnacle allows you to do inside the home, can now be done outside the home."
In a separate press release issued today, Orb Networks introduced Orb Media 1.0 at the 2005 International CES tradeshow in Las Vegas, Nevada. Orb's first product introduction marks a breakthrough in streaming digital media services. Using any Web browser, Orb provides a simple, intuitive interface to the user's content located on their home PC or on the Internet allowing users to create their own "personal media portal." Users can now see their home videos, listen to their favorite songs, or watch live TV on virtually any Internet-connected devices. By removing the complexity and limitations of many of today's digital entertainment products and services, Orb's software architecture leverages the best features of today's popular standards while abiding by current digital rights management solutions.
