Multi-Tech Announces Isolated Ethernet Embedded Module

MINNEAPOLIS, January 10/PRNewswire/ --

- SocketEthernet IP Meets EN 60601-1 Requirements for Medical
Equipment Safety

Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a leading data communications and
telecommunications technology company based in suburban Minneapolis,
announced a new member of its embedded Universal Socket Connectivity family
for the medical device industry. The new SocketEthernet IP(TM) module (model
MTXCSEM-HV) is an electrically isolated model of the company's
serial-to-Ethernet series that meets the requirements of the EN 60601-1
standard for medical electrical equipment safety. The new model provides a
high-performance Ethernet bridge and a complete TCP/IP protocol stack. The
SocketEthernet IP module connects serial devices to an IP network and is
ideal for applications such as patient monitoring.

"Our new SocketEthernet IP module provides a fast and efficient means for
the designer of medical products to add Ethernet connectivity to IP
networks," states Chip Harleman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for
Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. "The SocketEthernet IP module can shorten the time
to market for medical products and save on design resources by providing all
that is necessary for an Ethernet network interface in one small convenient
package. This new SocketEthernet IP module is part of a much larger family of
embedded solutions that create communication-ready devices by integrating
connectivity into a single universal socket design. The Universal Socket
Connectivity family of products adds remote monitoring, diagnostics, data
collection or virtually any communications ability to existing designs or new
devices with interchangeable modules. This new Ethernet module is the second
medical-specific design in the series joining the SocketModem(TM) module, a
complete data, voice and fax V.92 analog modem model."

The SocketEtherent IP module, model MTXCSEM-HV, is a complete,
ready-to-integrate serial-to-Ethernet module for connecting serial devices to
an IP network. The MTXCSEM-HV meets the requirements of the EN 60601-1 safety
standard for medical electrical equipment. It provides electrical isolation
between the Ethernet network and serial interface. The SocketEthernet IP
module is a space-efficient module (1 inch x 2.5 inch) that integrates a
high-performance Ethernet bridge as well as a complete TCP/IP protocol stack
into a single, universal socket. SocketEthernet IP product supports DTE
speeds to 230K bps, and includes 10/100BaseT Ethernet, LED driver outputs, a
complete command line interface, central site setup and control of remote
modules, and flash memory for updates.
