Microsoft at 2005 International CES
Microsoft Corp. has planned the following press activities for 2005
International CES, to be held in Las Vegas, Jan. 6-9.
Bill Gates' Keynote Address
Timing. Bill Gates, chairman and chief software architect at Microsoft,
will deliver the 2005 International CES keynote address at 6:30 p.m. PST
Wednesday, Jan. 5, at the Las Vegas Hilton Theater.
Admission requirements. Admission to the keynote address will be granted
to accredited members of the media and analysts on a first-come, first-
served basis. Reporters and analysts must have their official CES badges
and badgeholders for admission to the keynote address. Credentials can be
picked up in the CES pressroom at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Room
S229, between the Central and South halls. Attendees may only pick up
their own badge. The doors to the keynote presentation will open at
5:45 p.m. Members of the media and analysts are encouraged to arrive at
the theater well in advance of the opening to ensure their admission.
Following are some important notes regarding security at the Bill Gates
keynote event:
-- Members of the media and analysts carrying bags into the keynote event
will be asked to present their badge; bags will be subject to search.
-- Still cameras will be allowed for credentialed photographers, but
camera bags are subject to search and will be checked before
photographers enter the keynote auditorium; flash photography will be
permitted for the first minute only.
-- Broadcast crews will not be allowed to set up video cameras at the
keynote event; only recording decks are permitted. An audio/video mult
box will be provided. Broadcasters planning to plug into the mult box
must contact mediarelations@wctv.com to make arrangements before the
event.
-- No live broadcasting or webcasting of the keynote address will be
allowed, nor will rebroadcasting of the keynote address in its
entirety.
Videotapes of the keynote address will be available upon request in the
Microsoft(R) booth and Microsoft press tent on Thursday and throughout the
show. Transcripts and view-on-demand portions of the keynote address will
be posted to the CES virtual pressroom on the Microsoft PressPass Web site
beginning Thursday morning.

Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005
-- Game Power: Console, Mobile and PC Games Expand Total Entertainment
Market Share. Dean Lester, general manager of Windows(R) Graphics and
Gaming Technologies, will participate in this panel session,
9-10:15 a.m. Location: LVCC North 264
-- CES SuperSession: Computing for the Consumer -- The Entertainment PC.
Joe Belfiore, general manager in the Windows eHome Division,
responsible for development, business and marketing for Windows XP
Media Center Edition 2005 and Media Center Extender devices, will speak
on this panel supersession moderated by Jon Peddie of Jon Peddie
Research, at 1 p.m.
-- Internet Gaming: Understanding the Multiplayer Universe -- From
Functionality to Marketing and Distribution for the Console, PC and
Mobile Environment. Cameron Ferroni, general manager of Xbox Live(TM),
will participate in this panel session, 2:15-3:30 p.m. Location: LVCC
North 262
-- The Digital Experience 2005. Microsoft teams will participate in a
Digital Experience press reception 7-10 p.m. at the Mirage Hotel.
Representatives from the Microsoft Mobile and Embedded Devices team,
Tablet PC team, Portable Media Center team, Windows Digital Media
Division, Smart Watches for MSN(R) Direct team and Windows Digital
Imaging team will demonstrate the latest in Microsoft technology for
the consumer.

-- An Introduction to the New Internet: What IPv6 Is and How It Will
Affect Consumer Electronics. Ted Tanner, architectural strategist with
the Strategic Relations and Policy Group, will participate in this
panel session, noon-1 p.m. Location: LVCC North 253
-- Portable Video. Frank Barbieri, group product manager for Portable
Media Center, will participate in this panel session, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

-- Interactive TV: Is It Finally Here? Paul Mitchell, senior director of
the Microsoft TV Group, will participate in this panel session,
3-4 p.m. Location: LVCC North 264
-- Digital Rights Management. Andy Moss, director of technical policy for
the Strategic Relations and Policy Group, will participate in this
panel session, 3-4 p.m. Location: LVCC North 254
-- NextGen 2005 Digital Home Press Reception. Several Microsoft
spokespeople will host Microsoft's NextGen 2005 Digital Home Press
Reception, 5-7 p.m. Members of the press are encouraged to come to the
event, which will demonstrate how Windows is bringing consumers better
entertainment, productivity, communications and convenience throughout
the home. The Digital Home is located in the parking lot of the Las
Vegas Convention Center, near the South Entrance, next to the new
monorail stop.

-- Battle for Control of the Digital Living Room. Patrick Griffis, vice
chair of the Digital Living Network Alliance and director of Worldwide
Media Standards for Microsoft, will participate in this panel session,
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Location: LVCC North 257
-- Optical Recording Overview. Jordi Ribas, director of technical strategy
for the Windows Digital Media Division, will participate in this panel
session, noon-1 p.m. Location: LVCC North 262
-- The Telco-Entertainment Partnership: From TV to Broadband Services.
Philip Corman, director of partner business development for the
Microsoft TV Group, will participate in this panel session,
1:30-2:30 p.m. Location: LVCC North 261
-- Digital Download II. Rob Bennett, senior director of MSN Entertainment,
will participate in this panel session, 3-4 p.m.

Microsoft Booth Activities
A variety of activities will take place at the Microsoft booth, No. 7145,
in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. More than
50 Microsoft partners will be exhibiting in the booth, showcasing products
and solutions that feature Microsoft platforms and technologies.
Microsoft Pressroom
The Microsoft PR meeting rooms are located in a tent in the North Building
Silver Parking Lot. The parking lot is located directly across from the
convention center, next to the tent where trade show badges can be picked
up Thursday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m.-
noon. The pressroom will be closed on Sunday. For a list of
