Entertainment Organizations Join Together to Remember One of Their Own and Bring Awareness to a Little Known Cancer
The 2005 Brigette Parise PSA Initiative Focuses on Multiple Myeloma
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- To memorialize Brigette Parise, a beloved friend and colleague, and to bring awareness to the little-known cancer, multiple myeloma, the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE), Entertainment Communications Network, Inc. (ECN), Media DVX, The International Myeloma Foundation (IMF), Women In Film - Los Angeles (WIF LA) and Vendely Communications, Inc. are joining together to form the 2005 Brigette Parise PSA Initiative. The announcement was made today by NATPE Senior Vice President, Marketing Beth Braen.
Ms. Parise joined NATPE in 1994 as head of membership where she oversaw all marketing and promotion of the organization's global membership and member service activities. In 2004, at the age of 44, she succumbed to multiple myeloma, a cancer of plasma cells. While myeloma comprises only one percent of all cancers, it is the second most common blood cancer after lymphomas and is on the rise. There is no cure for the disease, but it is treatable.
"Brigette was supportive and caring of everyone. I'm proud that all these great organizations have come together, in her memory, to make a difference in the fight against cancer," said Ms. Braen.
The public service announcement (PSA) will be produced by WIF LA. Since 1993, WIF LA has produced and distributed pro-bono PSA campaigns for charity organizations who would otherwise have no way to seek support or publicize their services. From the time of its inception, the award winning PSA Program has completed over 50 campaigns on a wide range of issues such as League of Women Voters, National Endowment for the Arts, California Literacy Program and Get Tech. Everything is accomplished by incredible industry professionals giving of their time, talent and labor.
"We were impressed with the number of lives Brigette had touched and surprised at the little information most people have on multiple myeloma," said Bonnie Spence, WIF LA board member and chair of the PSA Production Program. "We are happy to have the means to alert people to the symptoms of this little known yet devastating disease."
Vendely Communications, a public relations and marketing firm whose goal is to help companies promote good corporate citizenship, has brought together this consortium. ECN will assist in the promotion of the PSA, while Media DVX will handle electronic distribution. The IMF was established in 1990 and is dedicated to improving the quality of life of myeloma patients while working toward prevention and a cure of the disease.
NATPE is a global, non-profit organization dedicated to the creation, development and distribution of televised programming in all forms, across all platforms.
