Digital 5 Partners With SMC on Next Generation Wireless Digital Media Receiver
Embedded Digital 5 Technology to Power SMC's Home Entertainment Device for Streaming Digital Content Throughout Homes Without Wires
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- CES 2005 (Suite 910) -- Digital 5, Inc., a leading provider of software for streaming of multimedia content, and SMC Networks, leading provider of networking solutions for the SMB/e, the ISP and all the way home, today announced that the companies are teaming to bring to market SMC's next generation home entertainment networking products. Digital 5's industry-leading audio and video streaming technology will be embedded into SMC's newest wireless digital media receiver for the best in wireless transmission of audio, video and digital photos throughout the home.
"We're excited about taking home entertainment networking to the next level," said Tom Rizol, SMC's General Manager, North America. "And Digital 5 is a great partner to team with to introduce our high-quality, highly effective networked home entertainment products."
The new SMC wireless digital media receiver technology connects televisions and home stereos to a home computer network without wires so that consumers can access digital music, pictures, and movies from anywhere in the home, using the PC as a media server. Embedded with Digital 5 audio and video streaming technology, the next-generation SMC wireless digital media receiver will be capable of streaming WMA, MP3, AAC, LPCM audio files; and industry- standard video formats such as WMV, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4 smoothly and efficiently. It can also render digital photo files stored in JPEG, TIFF, PSD, PICT or BMP, enabling slideshow presentation of photos delivered to the TV.
SMC's new, next-generation digital media receiver connects to a PC via an 802.11b or 802.11g wireless network, and to the television or stereo via standard AV connectors that don't interfere with video/DVD player connection. An easy-to-use remote control gives users access to material stored on the PC through the TV or home entertainment system, making it easy to select and play digital content stored on the PC or streamed from the Internet.
"We are happy to be working with SMC on this project. The vision of a connected home, in which vast collections of video, audio and photos stored on the PC or accessed via the Internet can be distributed across the home for viewing or listening on any TV or stereo via a wireless network is becoming a reality. SMC's solid expertise in networking combined with our core audio & video streaming technology makes for a complete digital media receiver product," said Mike Harris, president and COO of Digital 5.
SMC and Digital 5 are both scheduling meetings for press and customer previews of the next-generation SMC wireless digital media receiver with embedded Digital 5 audio and video streaming technology at CES in Las Vegas, January 6-8. The first in the next-generation digital media receiver product line will begin shipping in Q1, 2005
