The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Unveils 2005-2006 'Kaleidoscope Season' Packed With Variety and Drama

DAYTON, Ohio, Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- A remarkable panorama of orchestral color, pattern and form comprises the 2005-2006 Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Kaleidoscope Season. Music Director Neal Gittleman is confident that the Orchestra will "pack a powerful and colorful punch," as the Orchestra performs in Dayton, Ohio's premier arts venue, the Benjamin and Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center. The season is marked by some dramatic events:

The 73rd Dayton Philharmonic Classical Series season features guest artists Naida Cole, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, NEXUS, Julie Albers, Adele Anthony, Emanuel Ax, Emile Naoumoff, Ollie Watts Davis, and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Chorus. In September, percussion ensemble, NEXUS, performs the sensory appealing, "From me flows what you call Time." In January, famed violinist, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, presents Tchaikovsky. The spring ushers in violinist Adele Anthony with an all-Scottish program and the Classical season concludes with Mozart tribute.

The Bank One SuperPops robust season includes Grammy Award-winning Neil Sedaka. Former astronaut and American icon, John Glenn touches down on the Schuster stage with guest pops conductor and pianist Peter Nero. Comprising the rest of the season are: the all-female Irish group, Cherish the Ladies, Jubilant Sykes' dedication to Paul Robeson and Nat King Cole, and Pink Martini's blend of multi-lingual tunes and classical chamber music.

The Dayton Daily News Classical Connections Series continues to be a Dayton favorite with its unique question and answer format and comparisons and contrasts of prominent classical composers. The Demirjian Chamber Series features the Orchestra's own cellist, Andra Lunde Padrichelli and the Wright State University Chorus, among other local talents.

The Time Warner Cable Family Concerts reprises its entertaining and educational appeal to families with the annual PhilharMonster featuring an enchanting performance of Dvorak's "The Noonday Witch." Dan Kamin's stubborn and whimsical Classical Clown joins the Orchestra in February and in the spring, children are delighted with the magic of Mozart.

In addition to the special appearance of Renee Fleming, the Dayton Philharmonic is thrilled to present two of Dayton's best traditions, Handel's Messiah and the New Year's Eve Viennese Concert. Rounding out the specials is the Quartet for the End of Time, a powerful piece by French composer, Oliver Messiaen.
