AVM FRITZ!Box Fon - Available Now

AVM FRITZ!Box Fon - Available Now

BERLIN, January 20/PRNewswire/ --

- FRITZ!Box Fon: Internet Telephony and ADSL Web Surfing in One

- Now Make Phone Calls Over the Internet with Existing Phones

- Use Existing Phones Both for Conventional Lines and for Internet
Telephony

- High Voice Quality Through Intelligent Bandwidth Management

- Combined ADSL Modem and ADSL Router for Fast Access From Multiple PCs

- High-Security Firewall With Port Forwarding and IP Masquerading

Now you can make Voice-over-IP phone calls over the Internet using your
existing analog telephones. Simply connect your phones to the extension lines
of the new FRITZ!Box Fon by the Berlin telecommunications specialist AVM.
FRITZ!Box Fon is a complete PBX system that is integrated with an ADSL modem.
No new telephone hardware is necessary. The box incorporates traffic shaping
for built-in bandwidth management, and is thus able to ensure high voice
quality in Internet telephony. The PBX system lets you telephone over the
Internet even without having a computer turned on. As an ADSL modem or an
ADSL router, FRITZ!Box connects PCs or a small LAN to the ADSL line over
Ethernet and USB ports. And its firewall, with individual port forwarding and
IP masquerading, provides high security in Internet use. FRITZ!Box Fon is now
available for a suggested retail price of EUR 163,- plus local VAT.

Easiest Installation Imaginable

FRITZ!Box Fon lets you make phone calls over the landline-whether ISDN or
analog-or over the Internet. In just a few steps the Box is installed and
ready to use. As soon as FRITZ!Box Fon is connected to the telephone line,
the existing telephones are in service as usual. Once the Box is connected to
the ADSL line and registered with the provider, fast web surfing and Internet
telephony are also available. From that point on, phone calls can be made
economically over the Internet-even with cordless phones. Because FRITZ! lets
you continue using your existing telephones, there's nothing to get used to.
And the PC doesn't need to be turned on to permit phone calls.

Unique Bandwidth Management for High Voice Quality

Because both computer data and the Voice-over-IP data are routed through
the integrated ADSL modem, FRITZ!Box Fon has the unique ability to control
the voice quality through intelligent, demand-oriented bandwidth management.
AVM's ADSL products are the only ADSL devices that provide traffic shaping as
standard equipment to optimize the data flow. This technique ensures high
voice quality.

Use Existing Analog Equipment for Both Fixed-line and Internet Telephony

As a combined ADSL modem and ISDN PBX, FRITZ!Box Fon provides both IP
telephony and fixed-line telephony simultaneously. All the familiar features
of ISDN PBX systems are integrated in FRITZ!Box Fon. The new Box also
provides automatic fall-back to fixed-line calling if no Voice-over-IP
connection is available. Furthermore, numbers to be called only over the
conventional line, such as emergency or technical service numbers, are
maintained in a special list. And an individual call can be routed over the
conventional phone line by dialing a special prefix. For landline calls,
FRITZ!Box Fon can be connected either to ISDN or to a conventional analog
phone line.

Secure Surfing by Default with Firewall and Port Forwarding

FRITZ!Box Fon adds security to convenient web surfing with a built-in
firewall that monitors all incoming and outgoing data between the ADSL line
and the PC. Every data packet that comes from the Internet is tested, and
unwanted packets are automatically rejected. Packet filters also defend
against malicious attacks from the Internet, and prohibit incoming
connections. In the default settings, all ports are closed, so that Internet
worms like Lovsan and Sasser don't stand a chance. Individual ports can be
opened as desired to permit connections to local servers.

FRITZ!Box Fon is now available

FRITZ!Box Fon is on sale now. Free updates and free support by e-mail and
telephone are part of AVM's service. FRITZ!Box Fon also comes with AVM's
five-year warranty. The Recommended Retail Price is EUR 163,- plus local VAT.
