STORY SUMMARY:


An authentic plate from the Titanic has been sold on eBay for $10,000 USD to GoldenPalace.com, the Internet casino that recently made headlines when it bought the Virgin Mary Grilled Cheese Sandwich and the Ghost Cane from the online auction site. Jay Sherman, the homeless seller with no money or computer skills, inherited the plate from his great aunt Eva and sold it on eBay through intermediary DoorToDoorAuctions.com, a full-service online auction solution that helps sellers use the eBay auction system.

In a scenario right out of a Hollywood movie, Eva Freada Husted was heading back to the U.S. on the Titanic after she and her husband were visiting England in 1912. Marveling at the beauty of the ship, she decided to take a china plate with her as a keepsake and hid it in her coat pocket. On April 15, when the ship was sinking and she was running to the lifeboats, she grabbed her coat and luckily escaped with her life. She later discovered that she escaped with a piece of history as well. Accompanying the auctioned plate is a letter signed by Denys Rusatmov, Marketing Director of the Pirkenhammer Porcelain Company, stating the plate was manufactured by Pirkenhammer specifically for the Titanic porcelain plate set. The plates produced for the Titanic were not sold on the open market. The only place this Blackberry plate could be found by the public was in the 2nd class staterooms of the Titanic. A press conference will be held at 11:30 am on December 22, 2004, at The Stewpot (408 Park Avenue) where the plate will be delivered to its new owners, GoldenPalace.com.
