TippingPoint Announces Support for Network Access Protection Technology From Microsoft
AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- TippingPoint Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:TPTI), the leader in intrusion prevention, today announced plans for UnityOne(TM) Intrusion Prevention Systems to support Microsoft's Network Access Protection (NAP) technology, an extensible, standards-based architecture that will enforce and apply network access security policies in order to prevent malicious traffic from entering corporate networks.
With Microsoft's Network Access Protection technology and collaborative efforts among security vendors, computers will be validated against security policies and given a "health" check prior to being granted access to the corporate network. Infected and non-compliant machines will be re-directed to a quarantined virtual network for remediation.
"Microsoft welcomes the support of TippingPoint's Digital Vaccine vulnerability research team and award-winning intrusion prevention systems," said Steve Anderson, a Director in the Windows Server Group at Microsoft. "TippingPoint's expertise in vulnerability research and attack prevention will greatly benefit our mutual customers."
TippingPoint's Digital Vaccine research team is devoted to researching new vulnerabilities to deliver immediate, proactive protection to customers through the Digital Vaccine service, which remotely updates UnityOne with the latest Virtual Software Patches(TM) and filters to shield customers from both known and unknown threats, worms, viruses, Trojans, and Denial of Service attacks.
"Today's threats are continually evolving, requiring new security technologies and processes to keep them at bay," said TippingPoint's Chief Technology Officer Marc Willebeek-LeMair. "Microsoft's Network Access Protection technology is a huge step in ensuring that end-systems are kept up to date and can collaborate with intelligent network nodes to secure the network. The Network Access Protection client complements our network-based Intrusion Prevention Systems, which serve as powerful enforcement points in the Network Access Protection ecosystem."
Microsoft Network Access Protection technology will be part of the next version of Windows Server code named "Longhorn."
TippingPoint's UnityOne is the most decorated intrusion prevention system. In 2004, UnityOne was recognized with the NSS Gold Award, SANS' Trusted Tool designation, eWEEK's Excellence Award for Enterprise Resource Protection, IDG's Network Protection Product of the Year presented by TechWorld, eWEEK's Analyst's Choice Award, and SC Magazine's Best Buy Award.
TippingPoint's UnityOne Intrusion Prevention System provides Application Protection, Performance Protection and Infrastructure Protection at gigabit speeds through total packet inspection. Application Protection capabilities provide fast, accurate, reliable protection from internal and external cyber attacks. Through its Infrastructure Protection capabilities, UnityOne protects VoIP infrastructure, routers, switches, DNS and other critical infrastructure from targeted attacks and traffic anomalies. UnityOne Performance Protection capabilities enable customers to throttle non-mission critical applications that hijack valuable bandwidth and IT resources, thereby aligning network resources and business-critical application performance.
