"This is a key relationship for PLATO Learning," said David Smith, PLATO Learning President and CEO. "It is a comprehensive implementation, validating the strength of our company, our products, and our services across the education spectrum. We applaud Salt Lake City School District's innovative approach to education and their ability to successfully integrate technology into classroom instruction to meet the needs of their teachers and students."

As part of the implementation, the district will expand its use of PLATO(R) eduTest Assessment to prepare students for online and state end-of- year criterion referenced tests. "We have used PLATO eduTest for the past two years in some of our schools. We want to continue using this excellent assessment tool and expand use to our high school assessment program to prepare students to pass the Utah Basic Skills Competency Test," said Shauna Carl, executive director of academic services at Salt Lake City School District.

PLATO(R) Instructional Solutions will be used in classrooms to provide additional practice to students who may need more time to master specific skills. The curriculum will be incorporated into Title I after-school and summer school programs to provide individualized practice and will also be added to the high school credit recovery program. "Students unable to successfully learn all the information or skills required and who do not pass a course will have the opportunity to do makeup work, receive additional instruction, and recover credits by working with the high-quality PLATO resources," said Ms. Carl.

"PLATO Learning was chosen for this large-scale district implementation because of its extensive history of success in the education market," said Charles Hausman, assistant superintendent of learning services at Salt Lake City School District. "With the large numbers of mergers in the educational technology sector, we feel comfortable partnering with PLATO Learning. They offer all of the products we need, and we know they will be there over the long haul. Having an extensive partnership with one vendor not only improves customer support and communication, but also enhances the ability to integrate a broad range of products that we believe will improve student outcomes across our district."
