PlanetOut Inc. to Be Added to Russell 2000(R) and Russell 3000(R) Indexes

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PlanetOut Inc (NASDAQ:LGBT) announced today that it will join the Russell 2000(R) and Russell 3000(R) Indexes, effective December 17, 2004. Russell updates their indexes with companies that have completed initial public offerings on a quarterly basis. PlanetOut is being added to the indexes following its October 2004 initial public offering.

"PlanetOut is pleased to be added to the Russell indexes, and we believe that our inclusion will increase our visibility with investors," said Lowell Selvin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of PlanetOut. "It provides us with the opportunity to expand our shareholder base while we continue to grow what we believe is the world's largest global network for the gay and lesbian community."

Membership in Russell's 21 U.S. equity indexes is determined primarily by market capitalization rankings and style attributes. Russell indexes are widely used by managers for index funds and as benchmarks for both passive and active investment strategies. All indexes are subsets of the Russell 3000 Index, which measures the performance of the 3,000 largest U.S. companies based upon total market capitalization. The largest 1,000 companies in the ranking comprise the Russell 1000 Index while the remaining 2,000 companies become the widely used Russell 2000 Index.
