Now Hear This: Audio Books Available Online
SEATTLE, Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- If you love to read, but don't have time to sit down with a good book, the King County Library System has just the answer you're looking for: audio books you can download-online.
The first library in the nation to "go live" with a high-tech new digital audio service, King County Library System patrons now can browse a list of selected titles and download digital audio files on the spot.
This new generation of digital audio delivery is an upgrade from the existing e-books technology, allowing library patrons to download selected audio books on their own playback gear, using Microsoft(R) Windows Media(R) Player. KCLS is one of the key beta testers involved with vendor OverDrive during the developmental stages of Audio Books Online.
With a valid KCLS library card, borrowers can request an item from the OverDrive Audio Books collection list available online at the KCLS Web site and simply download your choice immediately. No trips to the library, no hardware changes hands, no waiting.
The start-up collection includes 220 titles, primarily recent genre fiction, with emphasis on mystery, romance, thrillers and general fiction. Best-selling authors available in the format include Nora Roberts, Tom Clancy, Stephen Coonts, P.J. O'Rourke, Elizabeth Lowell, Amy Tan, Catherine Coulter and many more. Also available are a few children's titles, nearly a dozen classic works of literature, and a handful of non-fiction items. Most of the works initially available are from Brilliance publishing and Listen & Live Audio.
