The current drive in education is for lower costs; increased
productivity; qualifications and jumping through hoops to improve job
prospects. In industry and commerce the ugly phrase 'just-in-time training'
has taken hold. Courses at the New Curiosity Shop fill a niche more and more
neglected by colleges and universities, encouraged as they are to offer
training aimed purely at improving job prospects.



Learning for the sake of learning is an endangered species: the New
Curiosity Shop is attempting to address this and our courses are designed to
generate a sense of discovery, of finding out, and rekindle the ability to
ask 'why?' Our courses encourage students to work and learn with the tutor
and their fellow students, recognising that learning is a social activity,
and should be, dare we say, fun.

The New Curiosity Shop is based in Edinburgh, Scotland the home of the
enlightenment. No conglomerates, corporates or multi-million dollar industry
backing here: the New Curiosity Shop is the brain-child of two Edinburgh
educationalists, Noel Chidwick and Dr W Arthur Chapman, who have a passion
for learning, an appreciation of the technology and a desire to change
