Hop-on Establishes SKD Production Line in Mexico

IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Hop-on.com, Inc. today announced that it has shipped state-of-the-art Agilent testing equipment to a facility in Mexico and established a semi-knocked down (SKD) production line. The SKD line will utilize local personnel to assemble phone kits imported from Hop-on's Asian manufacturer, load software into the phones and perform testing. The initial SKD production will be for 30,000 Hop-on GSM Model 1806 phones, which represents 60% of the 50,000 unit purchase order announced on December 6th to a Mexican GSM carrier. The other 20,000 units of this purchase order were imported to Mexico as finished goods. The initial maximum capacity of this SKD line is 75,000 phones per month, which can be increased with additional equipment as the demand for Hop-on products grow. In addition to being used for other Hop-on phone models, phones produced with this SKD line will be distributed to other Latin American countries that have trade agreements with Mexico, including, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Nicaragua, Bolivia 3 per cent duty and ALADI countries have a 14 per cent duty

Samuel Demissie, President of Hop-on commented, "We have been working diligently to get our Mexican SKD line in place as it allows us to minimize our landed cost for phones sold in the Latin America markets. We have experienced engineers training local personnel on all aspects of our phone's SKD assembly, including hardware connections/driver installation, software/client software installation and final test procedures. The SKD line will be operational before the end of the week and we look forward to expanding our market presence in Mexico as well as the other Latin American countries that would benefit from utilizing our SKD production line in Mexico."
