Heavenly Village Cinema Brings First All-THX Certified Movie Theater to Lake Tahoe

Heavenly Village Cinema Brings First All-THX Certified Movie Theater to Lake Tahoe

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. and SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif., Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Just in time for the holiday season, THX Ltd. today announced that the new Heavenly Village Cinema on Lake Tahoe's South Shore will be the region's first all-THX Certified theater. The eight-screen theater, which opens to the public on Wednesday the 22nd, has been designed to meet the THX performance standards for sound and picture excellence. By achieving THX Certification on every screen, the Heavenly Village Cinema will offer Tahoe-area residents the entertainment industry's best possible motion picture presentation.

"The THX Certification program is based on the company's more than two decades of film industry and sound engineering expertise, and is reserved for the world's premier cinema venues," said Michael Franzi, vice president, sales and marketing at THX. "We're thrilled to bring a superior level of cinematic quality to the Lake Tahoe area and we look forward to a long-lasting relationship with the Heavenly Village Cinema and the community."

THX engineers worked closely with the cinema's architects and construction design team to incorporate the necessary elements that enabled every auditorium to meet the THX performance standards. These standards ensure that sound effects, dialogue and music are evenly distributed throughout the cinema, and that noise from other auditoria and lobby concessions does not distract moviegoers from the feature presentation. The THX team also evaluated audience-viewing angles and made sure that each auditorium complied with the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) projection standards for distortion and screen illumination.

"Moviegoers in South Tahoe are about to experience feature films the way filmmakers intend them to be," said John Roush, owner and operator of the Heavenly Village Cinema. "From the architectural design to the presentation equipment, we worked closely with THX to ensure every aspect of the cinema met its rigid standards for sound and picture excellence. The result is a cinema environment that promises to deliver the sharpest visuals and clearest sounds to every seat in the house."
