Firstlogic's Latest Presorting Technology Delivers Zone Analysis Program Support for Periodical Mailers

Automating Zone Analysis Saves Time and Money for Companies Like Brown Printing

LA CROSSE, Wis., Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Firstlogic, Inc., a global provider of commercial mail and information quality software solutions, today announced the general release of the firm's latest Presorting technology that recently gained approval to take advantage of the new Zone Analysis Program (ZAP) from the United States Postal Service (USPS(R)). ZAP was developed to help publishers and USPS personnel verify that Periodicals mail -- typically the weekly, bi-weekly or monthly magazines and newsletters mailed to homes and businesses -- are properly assigned according to the USPS National zone chart matrix to ensure the proper level of postage is collected for each piece that is mailed.

Firstlogic offers support of ZAP in the firm's Postalsoft(R) Professional Edition, Postalsoft Business Edition(R), and Postalsoft DeskTop Mailer(R) software packages. The firm has reached "Level 1" approval, which means that organizations utilizing Firstlogic's presorting technology will not be required to manually create and submit an annual zone summary of postage payment for review by their USPS postmaster. This is welcome news for Periodicals class mailers.

"The current method for manually verifying the proper zone calculation for the publications we print is labor intensive and time consuming for both the USPS and our customers," according to Erv Drewek, distribution and postal affairs manager for Waseca, Minn.-based Brown Printing Company. "Automating the process will help us better serve our printing customers, and benefit the USPS. It's Firstlogic's ability to consistently meet ever changing mailing requirements and help us take advantage of the latest USPS programs that makes us a proud user of their technology."

Brown Printing Company is the fourth largest magazine printer in the U.S. and is nationally recognized as a high-quality, high-volume printer serving America's finest magazine, catalog and insert publishers. The firm prints over 500 magazine titles for nearly 400 clients.

According to Stacey Mentzel, Firstlogic's postal product line manager, offering support of the latest programs offered by the USPS is a tradition at Firstlogic. "Over our 20-year history we've worked to meet and exceed our customers expectations with a broad and deep solution set that allows organizations to choose the level of technology that best fits their needs. Providing support for innovative programs like ZAP brings another level of efficiency to our Periodicals mailing customers," Mentzel notes.

In addition to the support of ZAP, Firstlogic's latest presorting technology provides a number of additional updates specific to areas of mailing that help customers meet evolving regulations from the USPS and enhance usability of the technology for our customers. For instance, the latest software release provides support for merged 5DG and 5DGS Pallets to non-AFSM100 flats and some irregular parcels to meet a requirement from the USPS that goes into effect on January 6, 2005.
