DSO to Thank General Motors for Many Years of Generosity With Free Holiday Concert in the Wintergarden

Free DSO Performance Takes Place Friday, December 17 at 12 p.m.

DETROIT, Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- 'Tis the season to offer good tidings and holiday joy. The Detroit Symphony Orchestra hopes to do just that on Friday, December 17, when the Orchestra will publicly thank General Motors Corp. for its many years of support through a free lunchtime concert in the GM Renaissance Center's Wintergarden atrium (located on the riverfront side of the GM Renaissance Center). General Motors employees, workers in the Renaissance Center and the public are all invited to join in the festival musical occasion, which begins at 12 p.m.

"General Motors is among the DSO's most generous corporate donors," said Anne Parsons, DSO President and Executive Director. "They help underwrite our annual concert season and educational activities, and through the General Motors Radio Broadcast Series, we are the nation's most widely heard Orchestra on the radio. We hope to serve as a beacon of light for our city and state, and are proud to act as cultural ambassadors on their behalf."

"As a member of the DSO Board of Directors representing GM's employees, I welcome the Orchestra into the Renaissance Center and thank them for this wonderful concert," said Gary Cowger, president of GM North America. "This presentation will put all who see and hear it in the proper spirit for this holiday season and confirm the national reputation of the DSO."

On the podium for this performance will be guest conductor John Morris Russell, Music Director of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. The program will feature holiday classics including Irving Berlin's "White Christmas," excerpts from The Messiah including the famous "Hallelujah" chorus, "March of the Toys" from Babes in Toyland, Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride," excerpts from The Nutcracker, J.S. Bach's Air on a G String, and more.
