PARK RIDGE, N.J., Nov. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sony Electronics and TrustEra of San Jose, Calif. today announced their intention to jointly develop a forensic-grade electronic signature solution based on the Sony FIU- 810 Puppy(R) fingerprint identity token that fully realizes the benefits of electronic document workflow and agreement formation by offering organizations accountable and legally-admissible digital signature capabilities.

Through the planned integration of the Puppy token with TrustEra's managed, high-assurance digital certificates and TrustEraSign (TM) 2.0 legal admissibility software, organizations will be able to utilize electronic documents end-to-end in workflow and contract execution.
In addition, regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA are expected to make this new solution ideal for medical, pharmaceutical, corporate and legal environments, providing increased control and accountability over business conducted electronically. Organizations can improve their bottom line by taking advantage of the cost-savings inherent in eliminating the customary costs of such paper-based operations as printing, signing, copying, courier, storage, and archiving.
"The Sony FIU-810 Puppy platform leverages TrustEra's digital signature application and expertise into a practical and cost-effective innovation that provides a fundamental advance over traditional electronic signing solutions," said Joseph Stinziano, senior vice president of Sony Electronics' Media and Applications Solutions Division. "It's exciting to have TrustEra join other industry-leading developers who have recognized the FIU-810 as a basic building block for new applications that are making electronic workflow an everyday reality, providing companies and organizations of all sizes with true return on investment."
"Our solution bridges what once seemed to be an impossible gap for the adoption of true end-to-end electronic business." said Jacques Francoeur, CEO of TrustEra. "By building on the Sony FIU-810 Puppy token's capabilities, such as fingerprint authentication, true on-device matching, and secure creation and protection of the secret signing key, we will be able to create a fully provisioned and supported forensic signing solution that surpasses even two- factor authentication based signing solutions such as Smart Card and PIN. "
MAKING THE CASE FOR END-TO-END ELECTRONIC WORKFLOW
The soon-to-be announced Intelligent Signature (TM) Solution is being designed to provide accountability and admissibility in a court of law. This gives executive management measurable confidence in both electronic internal business decision making and the executing of external electronic agreements and transactions.
This solution is designed to be useable with many off-the-shelf applications that now support digital signatures, including Adobe Acrobat(R) - - for signing PDF-based documents -- and Microsoft Outlook(R). Specific additional functionality to further assure legal admissibility is provided within Acrobat(R) through the use of the TrustEraSign 2.0 software.
TrustEra's patent pending Forensic Provisioning Process will be used to verify the prospective signatory's identity and bind the FIU-810 Puppy device and signing certificate(s) to the signatory's fingerprints. The FIU-810 token facilitates this process by scanning, processing, matching and securely storing the user's fingerprints, as well as the keys required to use the signing certificates, directly on-board the device. Signing can only be performed by the signatory him- or herself, ensuring sole control over the signing act at all times.
