Special DVD-ROM Content Accessible Exclusively On Windows-Based PCs Brings Fun and Games to the North Pole Village
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), a worldwide leader in graphics and digital media processors, today announced that it has teamed up with InterActual Technologies, the leading provider for solutions integrating DVD content with the Internet and additional on-disc bonus features, to enhance the DVD viewing experience for PC users this holiday season. The magical comedy Elf, now available on infinifilm(TM) DVD from New Line Home Entertainment, leverages NVIDIA graphics processing units (GPUs) and the InterActual player to take audiences beyond the movie and into a virtual North Pole for some interactive seasonal fun.

The DVD is among the first to feature an interface built with real-time 3D animation and will further expose the advantages of the PC as a playback device for DVD content. NVIDIA and InterActual worked closely with developer nod interactive to create the "Make Your Own Christmas Book" activity, featured as part of the two-disc DVD's bonus content section. The interactive feature gives PC users the ability to "click-and-drag" their way through a 3D instructional tool for printing and folding characters and objects from the movie by rotating the images for a fully dimensional view.
"We are excited to collaborate with InterActual to further the popularity and advantages of DVD viewing on PCs," said Bill Rehbock, director of content development at NVIDIA. "The progression of rich-media to real-time 3D presents us with a two-fold opportunity to not only play a role in developing content that uniquely differentiates the PC as a DVD playback device, but expose consumers to all the goodness 3D has to offer."
"InterActual's vision is to take the audience far beyond the limitations of the standard DVD player and into the realm of the movie itself," added James Grunke, director of studio marketing at InterActual. "By combining the InterActual DVD platform with the graphical horsepower of NVIDIA's technology, we are able to greatly enrich the viewer's movie experience and bring 3D to the masses."
NVIDIA plans to continue to work closely with InterActual to incorporate 3D features and animations into upcoming DVD projects, and is currently aligned with New Line Home Entertainment to promote the availability and features of Elf to its broad customer base via Web promotions.
