Corporate Technology Leadership Recognized with Two CEO eHealthcare Commitment Awards
FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J., Nov. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- eHealthcare Strategy and Trends awarded Medco Health Solutions Inc. (NYSE:MHS) six eHealthcare Leadership Awards, including two that recognize Medco Chairman, President and CEO David B. Snow Jr. for his commitment to improving healthcare through technology and the Internet.
"With drug costs representing the fastest-growing component of overall health costs, we believe innovative use of technology and the Internet play an integral role in addressing the critical imperative to deliver high-quality, low-cost care," said Snow. "These awards recognize the efforts of our organization to innovate on behalf of our customers and members."
Medco's member site, http://www.medco.com/, was recognized with a Gold Award for Best Interactive Site and an Award of Distinction for Best Overall Internet Site. The Medco Client Website, a Web portal through which Medco's clients access tools to manage their prescription drug benefit, was recognized with two Gold Awards for Best Overall Internet Site and Best Interactive Site under the Business/Process Improvement Applications category.
Snow was awarded CEO eHealthcare Commitment Awards for medco.com and the Medco Client Website. The CEO eHealthcare Commitment Award recognizes a CEO's dedication to using the Internet and technology to help achieve an organization's mission and strategic business objectives. Medco is the first and only pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) to receive a CEO eHealthcare Commitment Award.
Launched in 1998, medco.com provides tools that enable its 60 million members to fully understand and manage their prescription drug benefit. In the first three quarters of 2004, medco.com processed 12.5 million prescription orders, a 25 percent year-over-year increase. Currently, the site processes an average of 350,000 prescription orders per week, and traffic from monthly unique visitors exceeds that of Medco's two largest PBM competitors combined.
eHealthcare Strategy and Trends, a leading Internet resource published by Health Care Communications, started the eHealthcare Leadership Awards Program in 1999 to recognize the best Web sites in the healthcare industry and highlight the Internet's role in achieving a healthcare organization's mission. The 200 organizations that received 2004 eHealthcare Leadership Awards were selected from 1,200 entries that were judged by 104 individuals familiar with healthcare and the Internet.
