The 250 room gaming resort, located in Indio, California, will open in December of this year, with a grand opening slated for January 2005.

The Cabazon Band of Mission Indians, the tribe whose winning case before the Supreme Court in 1987 opened the door to Indian gaming, has relied on the MICROS 9700 Hospitality Management System (HMS) for its retail sites since late last year. In identifying an operating system for its new resort, the Hotel's management sought a solution that would provide both advanced technology and excellent integration capabilities. Since MICROS provides an entire enterprise solution for the casino industry, the hotel could create an end-to-end solution with modules that included systems for property management, sales and catering, quality management, customer information and web booking.

The Cabazon Band of Mission Indians has operated the Fantasy Springs Casino since 1990. The band's reservation was officially recognized by President Ulysses S. Grant in 1876, although the Cabazon's land base today has been reduced to just over 1,400 acres in Indio, Coachella and Mecca. After opening a bingo facility in 1982 that faced continuing legal challenges, the Cabazons led the way in Indian gaming nationwide when the Supreme Court affirmed tribal sovereignty in 1987 under the so-called Cabazon Decision.
