Award-Winning Filmmaker Colin Gray's New Documentary "UNZIPPED" Green Lit For Production
The Film Will Take a Provocative Look at Income Inequality During The Upcoming Presidential Election
LOS ANGELES, July 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- From the award-winning producer of Being Canadian, Atari: Game Over, and director/writer of Freedom's Fury, Colin K. Gray's new documentary, UNZIPPED is green lit for production with an impressive team including award-winning producers Megan Raney Aarons and Amaechi Uzoigwe; Emmy Award wining editor Mohamed El Manasterly; and Emmy Award winning interactive director Ben Tricklebank. GRAiNEY PICTURES is the production company, in association with EVO Films USA partners Matt Green and Sam Day.
UNZIPPED is driven by a simple question--can regular citizens still achieve the "American Dream?"
Throughout the saga of the 2016 U.S presidential elections, "UNZIPPED" will provide a gritty snapshot of the increasingly distant worlds that exist between 8 families living in the wealthiest and poorest zip codes in four cornerstone states. The film will profile one family from each of the zip code extremes in California, New York, Michigan and Texas, while performing an autopsy on America's shrinking middle class.
The non-partisan film will also explore the perspectives of diverse thought leaders from both sides of the political aisle.
According to Forbes, "the 400 wealthiest Americans now own about as much wealth as the bottom 61% of U.S. households combined."
An astonishing number that inspired director Colin Gray to, "get people to re-engage in the political process through storytelling, and to create a nuanced, yet deeply provocative film about income inequality and help catalyze a re-think about possible solutions." Gray hopes that, "UNZIPPED will be an antidote to the hyper-partisanship, anger, and divisiveness that is rolling through America, especially when it comes to the issue of who the system is working for or against. Ultimately, our goal with the project is to create more empathy though storytelling, and build more understanding though data."
In addition to the feature doc, UNZIPPED will release a VR short as a prologue to the film in early 2017, as well as a fully interactive website that will be a dynamic resource for data and information about the issue.
