TD sponsored Block Party kicks off countdown to Union Summer outdoor market
TORONTO, June 2, 2016 /CNW/ - Today, TD Bank Group (TD) and Union officially launched the summer music season with a free Block Party co-headlined by Canadian musicians Francesco Yates and Shawn Hook, and hosted by Kardinal Offishall. Over 900 fans attended, taking in the best in homegrown talent, local fare and fun. The concert kicks off a season of continuous programming, with the highly anticipated Union Summer presented by TD, opening in 25 days. From June 27 to September 5, the Sir John A. Macdonald Plaza on Front Street will transform into a unique outdoor destination, featuring some of the city's most loved international and independent food and drink vendors, musicians and artists, creating the perfect space for locals and visitors to experience the best of Toronto.
"The plaza in front of Union Station is the perfect place to pause, enjoy, eat and explore," says Brad Keast, VP Development of Osmington. "We are changing the way the city experiences the station every day and the programming planned this summer, starting with today's concert, will prove more than ever that Union is Toronto's must-see destination."
Union Summer, presented by TD, will feature continuous, interactive programming all season long from a wide-ranging mix of artists, musicians, performers and community partners. Themed events will establish a regular rhythm on the plaza, such as a weekly outdoor movie series, TD Festival Preview and Emerging Artist days, showcasing local talent -- as well as special events celebrating Toronto Pride and more.
"TD understands the power music has to connect communities and it's incredible to see the city come together to celebrate and support Canadian talent," said Theresa McLaughlin, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, TD Bank Group. "We are proud to be collaborating with Union, supporting the vision to transform one of Canada's most iconic landmarks. Today was just the beginning and we look forward to delivering comfortable experiences to the millions of visitors to Union."
TD and Union are working together to bring comfort and convenience to Canada's busiest transportation hub, supporting the revitalization of Union Station as a vibrant and engaging civic destination. Recently supporting the launch of free WiFi in the GO York Concourse and the addition of comfort seating throughout the station - TD is helping to make commuting more comfortable
