Stardom is Deadly in Sylvia Batey Alcalá's Dark Comedy 'FAME DOGS' Awarded Best Comedy Feature at IFS Film Festival; World Premiere May 25, 2016

LOS ANGELES, May 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Writer/Director/Actor Sylvia Batey Alcalá is the creative force behind the indie dark comedy feature, FAME DOGS, about the deadly cost of stardom. The film has been awarded 'Best Comedy Feature' at the 2016 Independent Filmmakers Showcase (IFS) Film Festival and makes its World Premiere on May 25(th) at the festival in Los Angeles.

FAME DOGS follows Tony-winning actress Polly White (Alcalá) floundering in her pursuit of silver screen stardom. After being implicated in the death of a Hollywood starlet (Jillian Clare, Days of Our Lives), Polly gains the media attention she's been hoping for. As her celebrity spirals out of control, she must decide how far she's willing to go to stay in the limelight. Is tabloid glory worth the deadly price?

Alcalá produced the project under her production banner, Rude Mechanicals, and is excited to unveil the edgy female-led comedy, noting "Women's stories are seldom explored through dark, violent comedy, so I was grateful for the experience to play in that sandbox. Funny women are so often pigeonholed into the same roles; this was a chance for the principal cast to break with form and tell a compelling, hilarious, blood-splattered story."

Alcalá has been building a solid reputation as a filmmaker in Los Angeles. Her writing has advanced in the Austin Film Festival Screenwriting Competition, Screencraft TV Writing Fellowship, and the Bahamas Int'l Film Festival. A classically-trained actress, Alcalá has appeared primarily on stage and in independent films, including the upcoming drama feature Russian Doll.
