Girls on the Run Selected by Fox Sports Supports as a 2016 Initiative
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Girls on the Run is proud to have been selected by Fox Sports Supports as a national initiative for 2016. FOX Sports Supports is a program of FOX Sports dedicated to serving the nonprofit community and has become the industry leader in raising awareness for worthwhile causes like education, military, health awareness and human services. In the last seven years, it has supported 24 charities in numerous ways, from helping children with cancer to assisting military personnel and their families.

Every two years, the employees of FOX Sports decide on a specified number of partners to dedicate time, money and resources to through a variety of efforts, including PSA's, in-game graphics, event activations, talent involvement and more. Fox Sports has been a strong regional supporter of Girls on the Run councils in St. Louis, St. Paul, Tampa, Kansas City, Milwaukee and Los Angeles, and this announcement will catapult the awareness of Girls on the Run to millions of Fox viewers across the country throughout the year. Information about Girls on the Run will be featured during coverage of MLB, NASCAR, NFL, and collegiate sporting events.

Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based positive youth development program for 3(rd)-8(th) grade girls. Participants develop and improve competence, feel confidence in who they are, develop strength of character, respond to others and oneself with care, create positive connections with peers and adults and make a meaningful contribution to community and society. Each session is led by trained volunteer coaches that guide and mentor the girls. The 10-week program concludes with all participants completing a celebratory 5k event which gives them a tangible sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals. In 2015, Girls on the Run celebrated serving its one millionth girl and in 2016 is celebrating its 20(th) birthday.
