Detroit Public Television and Ally Launch New Series of Television Vignettes for Kids
New videos highlight financial literacy and money concepts for children
DETROIT, Jan. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Detroit Public Television (DPTV) and Ally Financial announced today the launch of a new series of short television vignettes that highlight fundamental money concepts for kids. The vignettes are now airing on local WTVS Channel 56.
Content for the vignettes is based on Ally's Wallet Wise program, a free financial education initiative that teaches consumers the basics of budgeting, credit, banking and investing, and auto finance through in-person sessions and online sessions.
Each of the videos teaches a basic money skill or concept for DPTV's young audiences. For example, one video gives viewers ideas of chores they might do around the house to earn an allowance, while another highlights a child bringing lunch to school instead of buying lunch in order to save money. The videos will air during DPTV children's programming throughout the year, and will also be posted to DPTV's website.
The new vignettes, titled "My Two Cents: Learn to Earn", "My Two Centers: Money Tree", "The Power of Money: Assemble", "The Power of Money: Kid Calculator" and "The Power of Money: The Spendthrift", can be viewed here.
"One focus of the Ally Wallet Wise program over the past few years has been to teach money concepts and skills to children and teens," said Gina Proia, chief communications officer and head of citizenship efforts at Ally Financial. "We're pleased to have a relationship with DPTV that advances knowledge on financial topics for children at an early age, which will help them build good money habits for the future."
This is the second series of financial education vignettes that DPTV has produced with Ally's support. The first series debuted in 2012 and was nominated for a Michigan Emmy in the Community/Public Service (PSA) category.
