LIVERMORE, Calif., Jan. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast Hometown Network, Comcast's regional cable network covering Northern and Central California, today announced that it will kick off its 2016 sports coverage with 18 high school basketball telecasts (see complete schedule below or at http://comcastcalifornia.mediaroom.com). In its eighth season of covering prep basketball, Comcast Hometown Network will televise a schedule of boys and girls games and will feature a number of highly ranked high school programs throughout Northern and Central California.
The telecasts, which will be available on Channel 104 and on Channel 819 in HD where available to all Comcast digital cable customers, will begin with a doubleheader on Thursday, January 7th at 7:30 p.m. with Campolindo at Las Lomas. This season's coverage also includes matchups between Lincoln and Saint Mary's High School, currently ranked the number two girls basketball team in California.
CHN's schedule also includes LIVE coverage on Tuseday, January 12th at 6:00 p.m. featuring cross-town rivals Saint Ignatius and Sacred Heart Cathedral Preps boys and girls games. And keeping in tradition, the schools will be playing for the coveted Bruce Mahoney Trophy which was inaugurated in 1947. It's named in honor of Bill Bruce and Jerry Mahoney, each an alumnus exclusively representing one of the schools, both of whom lost their lives during their service to our country in World War II.
"We're excited to bring to the community a unique sports experience filled with local stories that highlight California's homegrown talent," said Jeff Giles, Director of Comcast Hometown Network. "Each year, CHN ups the ante by offering local and regional coverage of prep sports that not only include basketball and football games, but Comcast Hometown Network takes you right onto the field with unique sports programming such as Game On, a local sports magazine show dedicated to female athletes."
Announcing duties for CHN's high school basketball games will be covered by Joe Castellano a local veteran announcer, Dave Lewis of KCBS 740-AM, Kate Scott of KNBR 680 and PAC-12 Networks, Drew Shiller of Pac-12 Networks, Kate Rooney of CHN and PAC 12 Networks, Alex Jensen, men's play by play for St Mary's College and Dan Dibley of 95.7 The Game.
All of the high school basketball telecasts will also be available via Comcast's popular On Demand platform, which allows viewers to pause, rewind and fast forward games. To view the games via On Demand, Comcast digital customers should tune to Channel 1 (On Demand) and select Get Local > Local Sports > High School Basketball.
