The Winners of the 11th Montreal International Black Film Festival are Revealed: Imperial Dreams, 3 1/2 Minutes-10 bullets & Le Commencement Receive Top Honour!

MONTRÉAL, Oct. 5, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The 11(th) edition of the Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF), created by the Fabienne Colas Foundation and presented by Global News Montreal, announced its prize winners at the Festival's closing ceremonies on Sunday October 4, at Concordia Theatre Hall.

Winners were selected by a professional jury:

Narrative Feature Films: Pierre Magny, president of the jury, director; Co-Hoedeman, animated film director, animator, writer, concept developer and filmmaker; Catherine Hébert, director.

Documentary Feature Films: Rachelle Salnave, president of the jury, filmmaker; Isabelle Depelteau, director and screenwriter; Dan Shannon, producer, director and DP.

Short and Mid-Length Narrative Films:Alice Tran, president of the jury, MAtv host and actress; Aleksander Lubczynski, filmmaker; Maxence Bradley, producer, director and independent consultant.

Members of the juries evaluated excellent films from over 20 countries according to a set of selection criteria. While all films were outstanding, the following really stood out:

BEST NARRATIVE FEATURE: Malik Vital's Imperial Dreams (USA)
Honourable mentions to: Ernest Nkosi's Thina Sobabili (South Africa)

BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE: Marc Silver's 31/2 Minutes, Ten Bullets (USA)
Honourable mention to: Michiel Thomas' Game Face (USA) and Stanley Nelson's Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution (USA)

BEST NARRATIVE SHORT: Loîc Barché's Le Commencement (France)
Honourable mention to: Anna Muso's Ran Fast (USA)

The 11th Montreal International Black Film Festival, created by the Fabienne Colas Foundation, was held from September 29 to October 4, 2015 and was presented by Global News Montreal.
