TORONTO, Oct. 21, 2015 /CNW/ - Watch and share... if you dare! Halloween thrills and chills are spookiest and most heart-stopping when they show up in the unlikeliest of places. Like your Facebook News Feed, perhaps. In a shomi-first, the Canadian streaming service will share part one of The Enfield Haunting - in its entirety - on Facebook on Saturday, October 24, only in Canada, the same day the full three-part series debuts on shomi. This is the first time a Canadian entertainment company has run a full episode on Facebook. shomi secured the rights to the series through Entertainment One (eOne).
Inspired by the world's most-documented poltergeist incident, The Enfield Haunting is a chilling three-part supernatural miniseries that dramatizes terrifying and bizarre real-life events that took place in 1977 at an ordinary home in London, U.K. Adapted from Guy Lyon Playfair's international bestselling book "This House is Haunted" and produced by Eleven, The Enfield Haunting features an all-star cast including Timothy Spall (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and Matthew Macfadyen (Anna Karenina), and tells the story of Janet Hodgson, an 11-year-old girl terrorized by the paranormal activity permeating every room... or so she'd like everyone to believe, especially Maurice Grosse (Spall), the doting researcher who goes to great lengths to protect her from the strange, dark forces in hope of making peace with his own daughter's untimely death.
shomi, in partnering with Facebook, will deliver the thrilling first episode of The Enfield Haunting to Canadian members of the social networking community who, by their likes and preferences, have demonstrated a passion for entertainment and movies, and a specific interest in the mystery/horror genres. For shomi, this is an opportunity to engage not only current members - who may share this episode across their own Facebook network - but to also target a new audience who may have heard about shomi, but doesn't know about all the great entertainment the service has to offer. This paranormal mystery will draw them in and inspire them to continue on to shomi, to not only enjoy episodes two and three of the trilogy, but also discover what else shomi has in store. New subscribers enjoy their first 30 days for free.
"We know our shomi audience - and potential audience - is deeply engaged in social media, and when they're passionate about a great entertainment experience, they want to share it with their friends on Facebook," said Rita Ferrari, Director, Product and Brand Marketing, shomi. "Showcasing this episode in the build up to Halloween is not only timely and fun, but it's a great way to highlight a new title for our existing Facebook friends, expand our reach to attract new members, and partner with Facebook on a first-in-Canada initiative."
The episode will begin to appear in Facebook News Feeds, beginning on Saturday, October 24, and will run for three days, followed by another wave the following weekend to coincide with scary-streaming binges around Halloween. The Facebook episode will be in standard definition; on shomi, all three episodes will be in spine-tingling HD. Don't see the episode in your Facebook News Feed? shomi is hosting a Facebook event page for proactive poltergeist seekers to watch the first episode of The Enfield Haunting.
Written by Joshua St. Johnston (Walking on Sunshine, Sweeney Todd) and directed by Kristoffer Nyholm (The Killing), the miniseries was produced by Eleven and executive produced by Adrian Sturges (The Disappearance of Alice Creed), Jamie Campbell and Joel Wilson. Sky's Cameron Roach also served as executive producer.
